Growing up my uncle Alberto Gutierrez was on of my first fashion inspiration.
His style was always on point.
A cross between Magnum P.I effortless chic and Malcolm X elegance.
I remember a few button down shirts (all white with the exception of a guayabera). 2 suits (black and brown). A ton of shoes.
He had a gift for making everything look new.
“Real men wear belts” he’d say to me back in the 90’s when wearing baggy jeans slung low (an integral part of streetwear cred). Probably the only rule I don't follow (belt buckles give me a rash).
He gifted me my first plaid outfit with a pair of Buster Brown marshmallow shoes when I was about 4... I tried squeezing into that thing till I was about 9.
When i moved back to the states he’d take my cousin and I (every saturday) to get our haircut, pizza and a stop at the Florsheim shoe (he was obsessed). His nickname for me was "Maestro" because my head was always buried in a book.
